One of Paddington's oldest drinking establishments the Imperial Hotel has undergone a drastic face lift. Owed by the Reschs family for over one hundred years. This historic landmark was closed for three years while it was lovingly restored to its former glory. During the restoration work I resided just a few streets away and would walk past with interest. I hoped none of the charm of the original structure would be lost.
I was kindly invited in to take a look at the new improved Imperial and I am glad to report that Anna Vaughan Architects
have breathed new life into the building without losing any of the soul. Plaster casts were taken of the original ceiling and this pattern was then used throughout. Cast iron fireplaces have been reinstated along with traditional tile boarders.
The interior styling was done by Alice Le Cras a member of the Resch family. I love her use of vintage Resch Ale advertising posters throughout the space.
I recommend a visit to the Imperial to see more of this dynamic building.
